Why so many Tomadoes?
May 28, 2008
Tomatoes
Tornadoes (note the r & n look like an ‘m’)
Tomadoes
Now, with this simple replacement of letters, I shall re-read the latest headlines, with humorous results.
“Two dead after tomadoes hit Kansas and Oklahoma”
“Tomadoes wreak havoc in U.S. Mid-West”
“Disaster Declared in wake of Multiple Tomadoes”
“Tomadoes rip through Colorado”
“Iowa town measures the loss after deadly tomado”
Yes, yes I mock your pain & tragedy.
Don’t (not) Drink the Water
May 28, 2008
The world must know this: Toronto tapwater tastes amazing.
It is better than all sorts of bottled water, including those giant upside-down blue drinking stations found in office buildings.
It is more delicious than anything Brita has to offer, plus it is effortless and free of cost.
Toronto is a city, so we have the resources and responsibility to make our water safe, and healthy. It is filtered like 10,000 freakin’ times, or so a sign I saw once said.
And finally:
There’s Flouride in it (not found in bottled water), which is good for your teeth. REALLY good for your teeth.

(Mis)Communication

I link you to this post about communication and action (in league with my previous post about guidance) by a great author named Scott Bessenecker.
Guidance
May 21, 2008
The message is sublimely simple: it is more important to be in relationship to the Guide than to have an experience of guidance. It is more important to be shown God’s ways (Psalm 25:4) than to find out the perfect way for ourselves. Be in relationship with the Guide and one will be guided; seek guidance and one may miss the best thing of all!
- article from Urbana.org
Psalm 25
4 Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;
5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Rhubarb Crisp
May 20, 2008
It’s like apple crisp, except with rhubarb.
It’s hard not to be happy when you’re full of rhubarb and sugar.
Here is a recipe that has gotten some good reviews from epicurious.com.
Ingredients
Topping
3/4 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1/2 cup old-fashion oats
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (consider a dash of nutmeg)
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) salted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
Filling
1/2 pounds Golden Delicious apples any variety will do, peeled, cored, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about
4 cups) about 4 apples
3/4 pound rhubarb, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 3 cups) about 2-3 stalks of rhubarb
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt
Preparation
For topping
Mix first 5 ingredients in medium bowl. Rub in butter until mixture begins to clump together. Mix in nuts. (Can be made 1 day in ahead. Chill.)
For filling
Preheat oven to 400°F. Combine apples, rhubarb, sugar, flour and vanilla extract in large bowl and toss to coat. Transfer apple mixture to 8×8x2-inch glass baking dish.
Sprinkle topping evenly over fruit. Bake 35-45 minutes or until fruit is tender when pierced with knife and topping is crisp, covering with foil half-way through. Cool 20 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
The World is Just Awesome
May 14, 2008
This video reminds me that when God saw all that he had made, he called it very good.
This makes me want to watch BBC Planet Earth, which is ironic, because it’s an ad for the Discovery Channel.
I don’t know what is funnier, the monks singing, “I love the ho wirr” or Stephen Hawking’s digital “boom-dee-ada.”
On a side note, the top search term for my blog is presently “no use for english degree.” *sigh*
Potato chip bird
May 13, 2008
I saw one this morning.
Otherwise known as the graceful, swooping, yellow and black Gold Finch.
They’re called the potato chip bird because their chirp sort of sounds like they’re saying “potato chip potato chip” and their flight is in great upside down archs, the shape of Pringles.
The Garden of Eden
May 12, 2008
Do you think that there were other places in “Eden,” or other places which were “Eden”-esque?
The Front Porch of Eden
The Bungalow of Eden
The Cul de Sac of Eden.
Do you think there could have been an Eden City? Or was it Eden, in part because of the fact that it was a Garden?
I like plants.
